The Delphi Police Department stated that the officers will continue enforcing downtown parking time limits while attempting to maintain parking spaces for community members to visit downtown businesses as the trial of the State of Indiana vs. Richard Allen moves back to Delphi following the selection of the jury in Allen County.
The department stated that the tow away zone signs have been reinstated, and that the signs do not indicate that vehicles cannot park in the spaces. The signs are intended to give notice that vehicles that violate the parking ordinances can be impounded.
Delphi Mayor Kamron Yates, the common council, the board of works, the City attorney, the Delphi Police Department and numerous citizens and businesses have bound together to offer multiple parking solutions for media vehicles that are expected to be present during the month-long trial. The department further stated that officers have worked to be consistent in parking enforcement in the downtown area to keep spaces rotating as designed in preparation for the trial to establish a common goal amongst all of the collaborative partners to keep the trial as minimally disruptive to the citizens and downtown businesses in Delphi.
“The last 2 hearings for this case in Delphi showed the great results of all this work with parking spaces open and available for those who want to explore, shop and eat downtown,” the department released. “Over the next month, we want to encourage you to visit downtown Delphi. Our small businesses are looking forward to serving you.”
