Delphi, Lafayette Police Departments Host R.A.D Self-Defense Class For Women In Delphi

The Delphi Police Department will be hosting a R.A.D self-defense class for women in partnership with the Lafayette Police Department in April.

The class will take place on April 20 and April 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Delphi City Building at 201 S. Union St. in Delphi. The class will cost $10.

The R.A.D class, which stands for Rape Aggression Defense System, is a program that teaches women realistic self-defense techniques over two sessions that total 12 hours of programming. The R.A.D System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness techniques, prevention techniques, risk reduction techniques and risk avoidance techniques before progressing to the basics of hands-on defense training.

The class is taught by nationally-certified R.A.D instructors, and participants will all receive a workbook and reference manual for the course. The manual will outline the physical defense program to help participants reference the material in the future and continue growth in the techniques taught during the program.

The program is not a martial arts program but willt teach participants the basics of hands-on defensive maneuvers. The minimum age for registration is 13-years-old.

Community members may register at elweb.app/rgvhwkj or scanning the QR code. Once the registration fee is paid, community members should email Instructor Sgt. Amanda Deckard at awdeckard@lafayette.in.gov for further instructions and information.
