The Carroll Cougars defeated the Delphi Oracles in girls’ basketball action Wednesday night. The Final score was 41-32.
It was the Oracles that took advantage early, jumping out to a 9-2 advantage after the first quarter.
Carroll found some rhythm in the second quarter outscoring the Oracles 13-5 and taking a 15-14 lead into the halftime break.
The Carroll defense was dominant throughout. They held Delphi scoreless for the first five minutes of the third quarter.
The Oracles weren’t done yet, however, closing the margin to five in the final minutes of the third.
To start the fourth Carroll led 28-23 but Delphi got back-to-back buckets from Maddy Brown to make it a one-point game.
Carroll’s Jillian Salts took over down the stretch, scoring eight of the last 13 points for the Cougars. Salts took home The Farmers Bank Player of the Game for her performance, she finished with 20 points, five rebounds, and a handful of key blocks and steals.
The Solidarity Community Federal Credit Union Play of the Game went to Bryleigh Springer. The Carroll freshman knocked down a pair of pivotal three-pointers to help propel the Cougars to the win.
Carroll moves to 12-5 (3-2) with the win. The Oracles drop to 6-11 (2-3) with the loss. Carroll sits in third in the Hoosier Heartland Conference standings behind Sheridan (5-0) and Rossville (5-1).
