Camp Cullom “Honey Extraction” Demo Saturday-Camp Cullom May Brand and Sell Its Own Honey Next Year

Interested in seeing how Honey is extracted from the comb?  West Central Indiana Bee Club will meet this Saturday September 20th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Camp Cullom Nature Center.  Chuck Tedrick, a member of the Bee Club and former Camp Cullom Board Member invites the public to watch the “Honey Extraction” process.

The Honey in Saturday’s demonstration held in the Camp Cullom Nature Center is from Clinton County Bee Hives located a couple miles from Camp Cullom.  Under the direction of Chuck Tedrick, Camp Collum is making tentative plans to make and sell its own Honey using the Prairie Grass as “home base” for the Honey Bees.

Tedrick said there are several dozen members of the Bee Club and the public is invited to join the club.   Members may have their own hives or are simply Bee/Honey enthusiasts.   The club meets on the 3rd Saturday of each month a various locations, often including St. Peters Harvest House in Lebanon located at 950 E. Washington Street in Lebanon.  West Central Indiana Bee Club will have membership information at the Nature Center Saturday for those who may wish to join the Bee Club.

Honey in Indiana is usually made by Honey bees from April to August.  The Camp Cullom board of directors has already approved locating a working hive in the Nature Center area and the unique design will enable any of Camp Cullom’s 25,000 visitors view the bees working their hive.

Camp Cullom may soon have “Camp Cullom Honey” available for sale, made from the pollinators working the blooms and blossoms of the 15 acre Prairie Grass.

Later Saturday evening, weather permitting, Prairie Grass Observatory at Camp Cullom will hold another Star Night Openhouse at the Observatory.  More information on this is available at IndianaStars.com.
