Boone County Sheriff’s Office Warns Residents of Scam Emails

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to reports of fraudulent emails circulating in the community that falsely appear to be sent by a Boone County deputy or other county personnel.

According to officials, the scam emails often instruct recipients to click on a link or open an attached document for review. Residents are strongly advised not to click any links, not to open attachments, and not to provide any personal or financial information. These messages are not legitimate and were not sent by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office or Boone County Government.

Anyone who receives a suspicious email is encouraged to delete it immediately, avoid replying, and report the message to their email provider.

Officials also advise that individuals who believe they may have clicked a link or shared information should take immediate steps to secure their accounts and closely monitor for any suspicious activity.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office asks the public to help spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors in order to protect the community from falling victim to these scams.
