The Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Lebanon Fire Department are hosting a Teen Academy from June
10 through June 14 for community youth to become engaged in the opportunities provided by law enforcement careers.
The Teen Academy will kick off on June 10 with arrival scheduled from 7:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. and departure at 3:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. and extend through June 14 at the Boone County Fairgrounds. The participants will be invited to attend the graduation set for June 14 at 5:30 p.m.
The Teen Academy will be open to students between the ages of 12 and 17, and the week-long program is intended to offer hands-on training and classroom sessions led by active-duty officers. Participants of the academy will receive a class t-shirt, a course certificate and an opportunity to take part in the graduation ceremony.
“Join us for an unforgettable experience and learn valuable skills in law enforcement and fire safety,” the Sheriff’s Office released.
From the law enforcement aspect of the academy, community members will learn about team building, physical fitness and nurtition, defensive tactics, less lethal force, traffic stops, K-9 and handcuffing. Guest speakers will be present for the academy, such as the Prosecutor’s Office.
From the fire department aspect of the academy, community members will learn about team building, physical fitness and nutrition, fire science, first aid, protective equipment, water application and fire attack. Guest speakers will also be present for the academy, such as members of the military.
Registration will remain open until 25 spots are filled, and there is not cost associated with the event for participants.
