The Frankfort Municipal Utilities Department warned of a new scam that has been reported where scammers contact residents that utilize a city utilities department with requests for payment through various means.
The department stated that the Utilities team will never ask customers to pay with a gift card, prepaid card, payment apps or money transfers, which are means that the scammers reportedly request funds for unpaid utility bills from victims of the scam.
The department stated that callers with any doubts about a call, text, email or visitor should conclude the interaction and contact their local utilities department for more information.
The department further stated that community members should never give out personal information over the phone.
