Lebanon Utilities States That No Legionella Bacteria Exists In Department Water System Following Reports In Private Water System

The Lebanon Utilities Department issued a statement regarding reports that “legionella antigen” was discovered in a local water source, stating that the bacteria has been identified and is contained within a private water system and will not affect residences.

The department stated that reports have been received for the presence of “legionella antigen” within Witham Hospital’s private water system. However, the department stated that the legionella bacteria is not present within the Lebanon Utility water system and will not affect local residences that utilize the department’s services.

The department stated that the presence of the bacterial was located by Witham Hospital and the Boone County Health Department, and the issue has been identified as being contained within Witham’s water system. The presence of the bacteria is currently being addressed.

The department stated that crews perform regular State-regulated testing to ensure water quality and safety, and tests showed that no threat of the bacteria exists within the Lebanon Utilities water systems.
