Johnson Twp VFD Fire Academy Class Students Have Been Busy The Last Two Weeks.

As classes are about to wind down for the students certifications they have kept very busy.

Students have been covering more chapters in the classroom and learning some of the science behind why they are taught to do things the way that they are.

They have also been doing some skills in their own hometowns. Students have been giving tours of their fire stations to members of the public. They have also been doing residential safety surveys and commercial pre-incident plans so they can better protect their neighbors.

Back at the Clinton County Public Safety Training Center – students have been doing a lot of hands on stuff. They have been learning how to fight grass and field fires, fires in small sheds. They have been forcing entry into structures that may be locked and have a need for fire or EMS to get inside.

Students have also been attacking fire inside of structures like a house or business. They have been practicing attacking fires that are on the second floor and in basements in addition to the first floor fires.

Students have learned how and when to ventilate smoke from structures on fire as well as several different search and rescue techniques for help people still in a burning structure.

Since not all areas have fire hydrants, instructors showed students how to set up equipment to allow water to be trucked to a scene and used. Below are some photos of the classes.
