Former U.S. President George W. Bush will share the stage with Purdue University President Mitch Daniels, who served in the White House as Bush\u2019s first budget director, for the final\u00a0Presidential Lecture Series<\/a>\u00a0event of Daniels\u2019 tenure at Purdue.<\/p>\n
Former First Lady Laura Bush and twin daughters Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Bush Hager spoke at Purdue in October 2018 in connection with the series of campus events celebrating the university\u2019s sesquicentennial,\u00a0150 Years of Giant Leaps<\/a>.<\/p>\n
Reserved-seating\u00a0tickets for entry will be required, becoming available\u00a0beginning Nov. 7 at\u00a0www.purdue.edu\/president\/lecture-series\/<\/a>.\u00a0Individuals will be limited to two general admission tickets each. Tickets will be electronic only and are not transferable. Attendees should plan to bring a photo ID and their mobile ticket for entry.\u00a0Due to anticipated audience size, guests should arrive early to navigate event parking and entry procedures prior to the lecture.<\/p>\n
Bush served as the\u00a043rd U.S. president<\/a>\u00a0from 2001-09. As commander in chief, President Bush worked to expand freedom, opportunity and security at home and abroad. At home, he championed the No Child Left Behind Act to raise standards in schools and cut taxes for every federal income taxpayer, restoring economic growth after the 2000-01 recession and launching an unprecedented 52 straight months of job creation.<\/p>\n
Prior to serving as U.S. president, he was the 46th governor of Texas from 1995-2000.<\/p>\n
Daniels\u2019 baptism in public service came as chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar from 1977-82, before serving as a senior advisor to President Ronald Reagan. After a 15-year career in private business, Daniels was confirmed as President Bush\u2019s director of the Office of Management and Budget by a\u00a0U.S. Senate<\/a>\u00a0vote of 100-0, serving from January 2001 until May 2003. In this role, Daniels also was a member of the\u00a0National Security Council<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Homeland Security Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n
