The Salvation Army Kicks Off Christmas Season with Chicago Staff Band Concerts

The Salvation Army of Lafayette invites the community to a special weekend of music, worship, and fellowship featuring the renowned Chicago Staff Band, one of The Salvation Army’s premier musical ensembles. The concerts will kick off The Salvation Army’s holiday season, which includes the annual Red Kettle Campaign, Christmas assistance through Angel Tree, and food and gift deliveries to homebound individuals in Tippecanoe County.

The Chicago Staff Band will present two free concerts in Lafayette on Saturday, November 7, and Sunday, November 8.

Both performances will be hosted by Christ United Methodist Church, located at 3610 S. 18th Street in Lafayette.

The first concert will take place Saturday, November 7, at 6:30 p.m. The second performance will be held Sunday, November 8, at 8:30 a.m.

“We are excited for the opportunity to host the world-renowned Chicago Staff Band in Lafayette,” said Captain Sarah Eddy with The Salvation Army. “It is an honor to have them join us during this important time of year. The ministry and love of Jesus they share is contagious and we can’t wait for this event!”

Saturday’s concert will officially launch the Christmas season for The Salvation Army of Lafayette. Major Marlys Anderson will share with the audience the exciting plans for the season, including the return of the “$20 Bill Challenge” during the final week leading up to Christmas.

Red Kettles will return to Tippecanoe County on November 14, so The Salvation Army is busy recruiting volunteer bell ringers to help raise funds to keep local programs and services going through 2027. The “Ring for Bling” challenge will be announced during Saturday’s event and volunteers will learn how Vierk’s Fine Jewelry could be adding a little sparkle to their holidays when they sign up to ring.

Shoppers looking for a Red Kettle this season will find bell ringers at Walmart, Sam’s Club, Hobby Lobby, and near JCPenney and Kohl’s at the Tippecanoe Mall. Volunteer bell ringers are still needed to man every kettle through Christmas Eve. Anyone interested in volunteering to ring a bell is invited to visit salarmy.us/LafayetteBellRinger and find a location, date, and time that works for their schedule.

Every donation given to The Salvation Army through the annual Red Kettle Campaign provides help and hope to those in need, and all gifts stay right here in the community where it is given.
