CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. — The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has extended a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northern Clinton County and surrounding areas until 2 p.m. EDT today.
The warning includes Carroll, Tippecanoe, northern Clinton and western Howard counties.
The storms are capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. The National Weather Service warns of possible damage to vehicles from hail, along with wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.
Locations impacted include Frankfort, Lafayette, West Lafayette, Delphi, Flora, Rossville, Shadeland, Dayton, Battle Ground, Mulberry, Camden, Burlington, Michigantown, Yeoman and Purdue University.
The warning also includes Interstate 65 between mile markers 159 and 184.
Residents in the warned area should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and stay away from windows.
Torrential rainfall accompanying the storms could also result in flash flooding. Motorists should never attempt to drive through flooded roadways and should turn around if they encounter standing or flowing water.
The Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 2 p.m. EDT.
