Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales is encouraging state employees to make the most of their Election Day holiday by serving as poll workers during the upcoming General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Election Day is an official state holiday in Indiana, providing many state employees with an opportunity to give back to their communities while helping ensure elections run smoothly, securely, and efficiently.Poll workers play an essential role in Indiana’s election process. From checking in voters and assisting with voting equipment to ensuring election procedures are followed, these individuals help maintain the integrity of elections and provide a positive voting experience for Hoosiers.

Secretary Morales is also calling on Indiana’s veterans to answer the call to serve once again. Their experience following established procedures and serving their country makes them well-suited to help administer safe and secure elections.

“Our veterans have already answered the call to serve our country, and now we’re asking them to serve once again. Their attention to detail, dedication to duty, and experience are exactly the qualities we need at our polling locations. I also encourage state employees to take advantage of their day off and step up to serve. Our elections depend on dedicated Hoosiers who are willing to ensure a successful Election Day,” said Diego Morales, Indiana Secretary of State.

Secretary Morales is also encouraging younger Hoosiers to get involved through Indiana’s Hoosier Hall Pass Program, which allows eligible 16- and 17-year-old high school students to serve as poll workers on Election Day. The program provides students with a unique, hands-on opportunity to experience, gain valuable civic knowledge, and contribute directly to the election process.

Secretary Morales encourages anyone interested in serving as a poll worker to contact their county election office for additional information about opportunities, requirements, and training. Poll workers may receive compensation for their service, depending on the county.

As the November 3 General Election approaches, Secretary Morales is also reminding all eligible Hoosiers to make a plan to vote, whether during the early voting period or on Election Day.Hoosiers can visit IndianaVoters.com to check their voter registration status, find their polling location, and prepare for Election Day.
