Rossville Summer Childcare Students Make a Splash During Turkey Run Adventure

Laughter echoed across the water and smiles stretched from one end of the pool to the other as students from the Rossville Consolidated School District Summer Childcare Program traded the familiar surroundings of the school’s grounds for a day of adventure during a memorable trip to historic Turkey Run State Park.

The excursion gave students an opportunity to explore one of Indiana’s most treasured outdoor destinations while enjoying an afternoon of recreation, friendship, and discovery. The highlight of the day came at Turkey Run’s popular outdoor swimming facility, where students cooled off after spending time experiencing the sights and sounds of Parke County.

The accompanying photograph captures the excitement of the visit as Rossville students lined the edge of the pool, proudly showing off the smiles that defined the day’s activities. For many of the children, the chance to spend a summer day swimming alongside friends created memories that will last long after the start of the new school year.

Rossville’s Summer Childcare Program has become an important resource for local families by providing students with a safe, engaging, and structured environment throughout the summer months. The program combines educational activities with enrichment experiences and community adventures designed to keep students active, connected, and learning beyond the traditional school year.

Turkey Run State Park proved to be the perfect destination for such an experience. Located in Parke County, the park is nationally recognized for its sandstone ravines, scenic hiking trails, towering trees, and breathtaking views along Sugar Creek. Visitors from across Indiana travel to the park each year to experience its unique natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities.

The park’s Olympic-size outdoor swimming pool, complete with accessible features and seasonal amenities, has long been a favorite attraction for families and youth groups looking to escape the summer heat.

For Rossville students, however, the day represented more than just time in the water. It was an opportunity to build friendships, explore Indiana’s natural treasures, and experience firsthand the value of learning that extends beyond the classroom walls.

If the smiles surrounding the pool were any indication, the Rossville Summer Childcare Program continues to provide experiences that strengthen connections, create memories, and remind students that some of the best lessons are learned through adventure.
