Maurie graduated from Rossville High School with the Class of 1957 and went on to continue his education at Purdue University. He joined the National Guard shortly thereafter. Maurie worked as a farmer for some time, later he went on to work at Staley’s in Lafayette, where he retired in 2004. He was a former member of the Freemasons, where he formed many lasting friendships. Maurie could often be found at local auctions, bidding on antiques—especially when he knew a friend was in need. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and rarely missed an opportunity to tinker on a project or tend to his lawn. Maurie took great pride in his farming heritage, carrying on that legacy alongside his sons as they raised livestock and farmed his family’s land. Above all, Maurie was devoted to his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved them fiercely and wholeheartedly.
He is survived by his sons, Brian “Scott” Davies and James (Lindsay) Davies; Step-children, David Lawler, Brad Lawler, and Terri Jo (Scott) Reese; sister, Sue (Fred) Resner; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maurie is preceded in death by his parents and wife; step-son, Michael Lawler; and brothers, Charles Davies and Major Richard Davies.
