Barbara Joan Abbott, 77, of Frankfort, passed away surrounded by her family at her son, Richard’s home, after a lengthy battle with illness. She was born on December 20, 1948, in Clinton County to Donald Gene and Laura (Eli) Sheets. She married Leonard Abbott on April 1, 1967, in Clinton County. He preceded her in passing on February 23, 2013.
Barbara attended Frankfort High School. She worked for Mallory Timers for 15 years before working for IGA until her retirement. She was a loving wife and mother. She cared for the home and her family, and they were her heart and passion. She enjoyed taking vacations to Kentucky to see extended family and took great pride in celebrating life’s moments, holidays and celebrations with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Barbara was strong-willed and had a giving heart, often sacrificing her own wants so others could have. Her love and compassion for others will be missed by those that know her.
Barbara is survived by her children; Melissa Morrison, Richard (Christina) Abbott, and Jason (Stephanie) Abbott; sisters, Carolyn (Bill) Bozworth and Nancy Stevens; five grandchildren, Heather (TJ) Manion, Bryan Abbott, Ashley (Josh) Oswalt, Camden Abbott, and Jack R. Abbott; and nine great grandchildren Wrenlee Manion, Brixxon Manion, Railyn Abbott, Brentley Abbott, Katelynn Oswalt, Dalton Abbott, Ariana Hall, Brayden Oswalt, and BrinLeigh Oswalt.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda Brant.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 9am until the time of the service at 11am at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
