Rossville Middle/Senior High School educator Jason Newhouser was formally recognized Wednesday evening, October 28, at Ivy Tech Community College’s 2026 President’s Awards Reception, or “Ivy Oscar Night,” in Franklin, Indiana.
Newhouser received the 2026 Lafayette Campus President’s Award for Excellence in Dual Credit Instruction, recognizing his outstanding contributions to college-level education for high school students. Announced earlier this spring, the honor also put Newhouser in consideration for Ivy Tech’s statewide dual credit instruction award.
Newhouser teaches dual-credit communication and humanities courses at Rossville, giving students opportunities to earn college credit while completing high school. He has taught dual credit courses since 2010 and has served as an Ivy Tech adjunct professor since 2008.
Unlike educators whose college-level instruction occurs exclusively in high school classrooms, Newhouser also actively teaches traditional college courses. This semester, he teaches communication courses in both Ivy Tech’s Lafayette and Kokomo regions while also providing college-level instruction to Rossville students.
“One of the things I value most about teaching in both environments is being able to bring my college classroom experience directly to my high school students,” Newhouser said. “I know what students will encounter when they enter college because I’m teaching those courses to college students, too. My goal is to make sure our dual credit students aren’t just earning college credits, but developing the confidence, independence, and communication skills they’ll need to succeed long after they leave Rossville.”
In addition to his dual credit responsibilities, Newhouser serves as Rossville’s Fine Arts Department Chair and was named the 2025-2026 Indiana Speech and Debate Teacher of the Year.
Newhouser was honored alongside Lafayette campus recipients David Foley, Adjunct Faculty Award for Excellence in Instruction, and Abigail Camfield, Full-Time Faculty Award for Excellence in Instruction. Camfield also received statewide recognition in her category. The honorees were joined by Ivy Tech President Dr. Marty Pollio.
“Receiving this recognition from Ivy Tech is an incredible honor,” Newhouser said. “I’m grateful to work in a school district that values these opportunities for students and to partner with Ivy Tech in making college-level learning accessible to our community. I’m incredibly proud to represent Rossville and Ivy Tech’s Lafayette campus.”
