Hoosiers will have the opportunity to watch a striking lunar eclipse tonight, Thursday, August 27, as the moon passes through Earth’s shadow.
According to the Indiana Weather Network, the eclipse will begin at 9:23 p.m. ET, reach its peak at 12:12 a.m. ET, and end at 3:01 a.m. ET Friday morning.
The event is a deep partial lunar eclipse, with about 93% of the Moon’s face covered by Earth’s darkest shadow at maximum from Indiana. The Moon can take on a reddish or copper color during the eclipse, creating the “blood moon” effect.
Clear skies are forecast, giving local residents a good opportunity to step outside and enjoy the celestial event.
