Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of an Indianapolis man whose body was recovered yesterday from Monroe Reservoir, southeast of Bloomington.
At approximately 3:53 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area near Allen’s Creek after receiving a report of an unconscious person who had been pulled from the water. The victim, Jeffrey Cox, 58, of Indianapolis, had been boating with a group when he went missing while the vessel was anchored. Cox was unaccounted for approximately 5 to 10 minutes before he was found unresponsive near the boat. He was not wearing a personal flotation device.
CPR and other lifesaving measures were attempted, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Cox was pronounced deceased at approximately 4:55 p.m. The incident remains under investigation.
Indiana Conservation Officers remind the public of the importance of wearing a life jacket at all times when on or near the water.
