The Sugar Creek Historical Society is inviting the community to help honor one of Thorntown’s most notable historical figures, General Anson Mills, with a special service project on Friday, July 25.
In celebration of America’s birthday and General Mills’ legacy of service, the Historical Society hopes to assemble 250 care packages for active-duty military members, veterans, and first responders.
Community members can support the effort by donating items through Sunday, July 20. Collection boxes are available at the Thorntown Public Library and Thorntown Town Hall.
Needed donations include toiletries, drink mixes, individually packaged nonperishable snacks, and small activity books. These items will be combined into care packages that will be distributed to those who serve and have served our communities and country.
Volunteers are also needed to help assemble the care packages on Friday, July 25, beginning at 1 p.m. The packing event offers an opportunity for residents of all ages to participate in a meaningful community service project.
For more information or to make a donation, contact the Thorntown Public Library or email kwamsley@thorntownpl.org.
