James Eugene “Jim” Devore, 92, of Rossville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 6:49 pm on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Milner Community Healthcare in Rossville. He was born on October 22, 1933.
A proud graduate of Rossville High School, Jim went on to serve his country with the Indiana National Guard during the Korean War.
Raised as a farm boy in Clinton County, Jim devoted his life to the local farming community, serving in many roles over the years — as a farmer, a farming educator, a co-op manager, and a farm implement dealer. He later spent many years at Donaldson before retiring.
That lifelong love of farming carried into his many interests. Jim had a particular passion for buying, selling, trading, and repairing toy tractors — a hobby that brought him great satisfaction — and he enjoyed attending antique tractor shows and took pride in owning a 1941 Cockshutt 60. He was an active member of both the Antique Tractor Club and the Lions Club.
Beyond his working life, Jim found deep purpose in serving others as a chaplain for the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and as a prison chaplain in Polk County, Florida. His Christian faith guided him throughout his life and was reflected in his active membership at Grace Baptist Church in Frankfort.
Above all, Jim cherished his family. He is survived by his five daughters, Doretta Jean Campbell, Sondra Sue (Robert) Hudson, Debra Lou (David) Watson, Elizabeth Ann (Andrew) Harris, and Linda Joan (Michael) Moscato; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Darlene (Richard) Dwigans of Kokomo, Gerald (Shirley) Devore of Elkhart, Loretta (Lawrence) Lambert of Kokomo, Grace Beresford of Adolphus, Kentucky, Diane Hill of Cutler, Indiana, and Hope Pitman of Fort Myers, Florida; along with many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sondra Devore; his second wife, Carolyn Devore; his siblings, Ronald Lee Devore and Daniel Joseph Devore; his granddaughter, Charlotte Lutin; his grandson, Andrew Harris; and his nephew, Stephen Wayne Hill.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Grace Baptist Church, 900 S. Maish Road, Frankfort, with Pastor Kevin Alber officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Friday at the church. Stout & Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
