Billie L. Burkhalter, 83, of Lafayette, passed away surrounded by her family, Saturday, April 25, 2026. She was born in Clinton County on November 3, 1942, to Ralph W. and Katherine G. (Sears) Dobson. She married George Burkhalter on June 11, 1961. He preceded her in passing on June 20, 2024.
Billie was a graduate of Frankfort High School, class of 1960. She worked as a farming wife and a devoted mother. She took pride in her quilt making and was a member of the Americus Quilting Club, was a jewelry enthusiast, and was an avid collector. She was always there to help neighbors, family, and others in the community.
Billie is survived by her children, Ron (Wife: Beth) Burkhalter; Steve (Companion: Jennifer) Burkhalter; Ken (Companion: Kathy Baker) Burkhalter; sisters, Linda (Steve) Frye and Elizabeth Cook; brothers, Hobert (Mindy) Montgomery and Danny Montgomery; grandchildren, Ashley, Abby, Emily, Nolan, Lilly, Katie, Josh, Brock; great grandchildren, Xander, Lincoln, Lucas, Camden, Soren, Atlas; and special friends, Ron and Cheryl Stoyke, Kay Knop, Jeff Cooke, Vickie Clark, Janet Woodruff, Charlotte Paugh, and Janet Gochenour
Along with her husband, Billie was preceded in passing by her parents; brothers, Terry Dobson, Mike Montgomery, Mike Dobson, and Phil Montgomery; and sisters, Florence Walker, Roberta Smith and Cheryl Ayres.
Visitation will be held, Friday, May 1, 2026, from 3-7pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Bodine Chapel in Rossville. Funeral service will Saturday, May 2, at 10am at the Funeral Home. Pastors Dwight Monical and Rick Perdue will officiate. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
