A Rossville educator has been selected for a highly competitive national professional development opportunity this summer, earning recognition among a select group of teachers from across the country.

Mr. Quentin Smith has been invited to attend C-SPAN Classroom’s 2026 Summer Educators’ Conference, scheduled for July 27–29 in Washington, D.C. The conference, hosted by C-SPAN’s education division, brings together approximately 30 educators nationwide each year, making the selection a notable honor within the education community.

The three-day conference is designed to help educators expand their use of C-SPAN’s free classroom resources, strengthen student engagement in civic education, and incorporate real-world government and public affairs content into instruction. Participants will also receive guidance on integrating C-SPAN’s nationally recognized StudentCam documentary competition into their classrooms.

As part of the program, C-SPAN will provide travel accommodations, lodging at the Phoenix Park Hotel near Capitol Hill, and conference programming, including collaborative sessions and networking opportunities with fellow educators from across the United States.

From a broader perspective, opportunities like this reflect a growing emphasis on civic literacy and student engagement in government and public policy. By equipping educators with access to primary source materials and national-level programming, initiatives such as C-SPAN Classroom aim to bring current events and democratic processes directly into K–12 classrooms.

Smith’s selection highlights both his professional commitment and the strength of instructional leadership within the Rossville school community. Upon returning, he is expected to share insights and strategies gained from the conference with colleagues, thereby further extending the experience’s impact across the district.

District leaders note that recognition at this level not only reflects individual excellence but also reinforces the district’s continued focus on providing students with meaningful, real-world learning opportunities.
