Jeanette Marie (Rohr) Marcum

Jeanette Marie (Rohr) Marcum, 83, of Bringhurst passed away at 05:32 am on Thursday, February 05, 2026, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette while on hospice care. She was born on March 17,1942, in Lafayette, to the late Wayne and Hulda (Davies) Rohr. Her marriage was to JC Marcum on September 9, 1961, in her parents’ home in Geetingsville, IN, and he survives.

Jeanette spent her early years growing up in Lafayette. She enjoyed playing in the park while on the way to see her Aunt Mary Rukes who she loved dearly. She later moved to Geetingsville and attended Rossville High School through her junior year. Due to redistricting, she went to Clinton Central High School her senior year where she graduated in 1960. She met the love of her life, JC Marcum, while a senior in High School at Clinton Central. Mom said many times it was mutual love at first sight and how she fell in love when she saw Dad’s beautiful eyes. Mom graduated from Indiana University in Kokomo with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She also later attained her Master’s degree from Purdue.

Mom was a school teacher at Carroll Elementary School in Flora for over 30 years, retiring at the end of the 1999-2000 school year. She taught second, fourth and primarily sixth grade. Mom loved teaching, especially art, children’s literature and math. She also was a cheerleader sponsor for many years.

Like most families, Mom and Dad had their share of challenging times, including the death of their eldest son, Greg in 2009. Mom and Dad always stayed together and loved each other very much for the 64 years they were married.

Mom and Dad attended the Bringhurst Community Church for a time until their declining health did not allow it. They very much appreciated the friendship and support they received from the members of the church. They also will be forever grateful to the many wonderful neighbors in Bringhurst over the years.

Surviving along with her husband, JC, are two sons, Craig (Carol) Marcum, and Scott (Beth) Marcum of Lafayette. She also is survived by a sister, Mary Helen Aldinger of Carmel Valley, CA. In addition to her parents and son, Greg, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Eugene Rohr.

We will honor Mom’s wishes with a private service and burial at Geetingsville Cemetery, where she will be close to her beloved Mother, Dad and eldest son, Greg. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Carroll Elementary School’s Lunch Program in her honor to ensure children always have a warm meal in school.
