It was an exciting night of basketball at The Hive in Rossville on Friday night.
The Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Cougars 60-49, and Carroll knocked off Rossville in the boys game 56-55.
The girls’ game featured two of the top teams in the area. The Hornets entered at 10-1, while the Cougars sat at 9-1 going into the game.

The Hornets started hot, grabbing a 19-5 lead early in the game.
Rossville junior Allie Elliott was a big part of the Hornets’ early advantage, scoring 11 in the first half.
Carroll tried to claw their way back in, but trailed 36-20 at halftime.
Foul trouble for both teams started to mount up in the third. The Cougars were able to hang around, cutting the lead to 10 before Rossville pushed it back to 51-37 by the end of the third.
Bryleigh Springer provided a big lift for Carroll off the bench. Her four three-pointers kept the Cougars in it and helped cut the Rossville lead to seven.
Victoria Vanderwall helped put the game away with some big buckets and stellar defense. She finished with 13 points and was named The Farmers Bank Player of the Game.
The Hornets held on to win 60-49 and moved to 11-1 on the year.
In the boys’ game. Carroll entered looking for their first win, after starting the season 0-5, while Rossville looked to stay undefeated with their 4-0 start.
Carroll took control early, using a balanced attack to grab an 11-4 lead and force a Rossville timeout.
Out of the timeout, Rossville settled in, ending the quarter on a 9-2 run.
Rossville stayed hot into the second quarter, starting with a 9-0 spurt to take a 22-13 lead.
Despite the run, Rossville’s Brayden Thiele-Hahn struggled to get things going in the first half, finishing with just four points before halftime.
Aiden Schaumburg was key for the Hornets, giving them 25 points, including 10 in the first half.
Carroll was able to hang around and only trailed by seven, 28-21, at halftime.
The Cougars continued to chip away in the third. Carroll’s Aiden Duff came up big all night, and a three late in the third cut the Rossville lead to four.
Early in the fourth, Carroll’s Brody Ray connected on a three to give Carroll their first lead since the first quarter at 45-44.
Two minutes later, Schaumburg knocked down a three to tie the game at 47. A few possessions later, he hit another from the same spot to put Rossville 50-47.
With under a minute, Aiden Duff hit a floater to cut the Hornets’ lead to one at 52-51.
After a free throw from Schaumburg, Duff knocked down a three from the corner, giving the Cougars the lead with under 30 seconds left.
Carroll would hang on to win 56-55, picking up their first win of the year in dramatic fashion.
Aiden Duff was named The Farmers Bank Player of the Game, and his game-winning three was the Solidarity Community Federal Credit Union Play of the Game.
