Nancy Jean McWhirter, 96, of Frankfort, passed away November 24, 2025 at I.U. Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, IN. She was born on January 13, 1929 in Flint, Michigan to Sidney G. & Veronica (Jarczynski) Pettenger. She married Thomas Wayne McWhirter on March 6, 1948 and he preceded her in death on March 13, 2002.
Nancy was a 1947 graduate of Flint Northern High School. She was a homemaker and volunteered at Hurley Hospital in Flint for over 30 years. Nancy was a member of the Flushing Presbyterian Church in Flushing, MI and the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Frankfort.
Nancy is survived by her children, Martha “Marty” (Daniel) Rodkey of rural Frankfort, Douglas Wayne (MaryAnne) McWhirter of Dimondale, MI, Thomas Jay McWhirter of Sandston, VA, 6 grandchildren, Ralph (Kelsey) Rodkey of Berkeley, CA, Timothy Rodkey (Jamie Fearnow) of Delphi, IN, Patrick (Whitney) Rodkey of Rossville, IN, LeeAnne (Drew) Lynch of Decatur, GA, Nathan (Bethany) McWhirter of VA, and Max McWhirter of Sandston, VA along with 10 great-grandchildren, Andee Lynn Junker, Blake Fearnow, Natalie Fearnow, Jack Fearnow, Porter Rodkey, Reese Rodkey, Henry Lynch, Livia Lynch, Bryn McWhirter, and Logan McWhirter. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, brother, Vance J. Pettenger and daughter-in-law, Kathy McWhirter.
Visiting will be from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2025 followed by a family service at 5 p.m. at Wesley Manor Amanda Reid Chapel, 1555 N. Main St., Frankfort. Rev. Kelly Kurth will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Garden at Flushing Presbyterian Church in Flushing, Michigan at a later date.
