Rossville Volleyball Finishes as Semi-State Runner-Up

The Rossville volleyball season came to an end Saturday at Case Arena. The Hornets finished as the Semi-State runner-up.

The Horents started the day on fire, sweeping Triton in the semi-final. Blaire Wellman finished with 14 kills, Ava Burkle had five blocks and Tori Fadnes picked up four aces and 32 assists. The Hornets won 25-6, 31-29, and 25-11.

In the Semi-State Championship, Rossville battled last year’s State Runner-Up, Faith Christian.

It was a tough battle, but the Hornets fell in four sets.

Faith Christian controlled set one, winning 25-19. Set two was tight, with the Eagles pulling away late, 25-23. The Hornets didn’t go down without a fight, winning set three 25-18. But Rossville couldn’t complete the comeback, and the Eagles won set four 25-15.

Addi Gorbett finished with 15 kills, and Wellman added 14.

The Hornets had contributions from both young and experienced players this season.

Senior Ava Burkle finished the season with 187 total blocks, which currently ranks second in the state and fifth nationally, according to MaxPreps.

Blaire Wellman’s stellar freshman campaign comes to an end with 326 kills and 55 aces.

Senior Addi Gorbett finished the year with 312 kills and 339 digs.

Freshman libero Cassie Schoon finished with a team high of 362 digs.

Rossville’s historic season comes to an end with a 31-4 record. The Hornets won their first-ever Regional and finished in the final four for Class 1A.
