The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the town of Sheridan will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Monon Trail extension in northern Hamilton County. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 3, at 10 a.m. at the Second Street and West State Road 38 intersection in Sheridan.
The newly completed trail adds 1.1 miles northwest from Second Street to the Hamilton/Boone county line, linking seamlessly to the previous trail section from S.R. 47 to Second Street, which opened in October 2024. With this extension, the Monon Trail now runs continuously through Hamilton County and connects all the way to downtown Indianapolis.
The existing southern portion of the Monon Trail stretches over 26 miles, passing through Westfield, Carmel, and Broad Ripple before ending at 10th Street in downtown Indianapolis. This project marks the completion of the trail within Hamilton County and was made possible with support from the DNR and the largest dedicated trails funding in Indiana history.
Trail enthusiasts, community members, and local officials are invited to join the ceremony and celebrate this milestone in outdoor recreation and connectivity.
