Rossville Softball Wins Hoosier Heartland Conference Tournament

The Rossville Hornets are back-to-back champions of the Hoosier Heartland Conference after defeating the Clinton Prairie Gophers 10-0 Thursday night.

One championship defense down, one to go for the Hornets.

Rossville got on the board early, leading 1-0 after the first. Avery Layton shut down the Gopher attack, throwing a no-hitter and striking out 12 of the 16 batters she faced.

Rossville continued to score consistent runs, adding three in the second, two in the third and three more in the fourth.

Eight different Hornets collected hits, eight combined for nine RBIs, and all 10 that came to the plate reached base at least once. Allie Elliott led the way with three hits while Layton helped her cause by driving in two.

The Hornets won in five and will finish the regular season on a six-game win streak before taking on Benton Central at home in round one of Sectional play.

The Gophers take second place in the HHC. Clinton Prairie will travel to Frontier for their Sectional, the Gophers will face Traders Point Christian. The winner will play Frontier in the Sectional semi-final.
