James E. “J.C.” Charles, 74, of Michigantown, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 8, 1950, in Frankfort to Harry and Esther (Huffer) Charles. He married Marsha Huffer on May 15, 1976, and she survives.
J.C. was a graduate of Clinton Central High School, class of 1969. He served in the United States Air Force in Japan toward the end of Vietnam War. He worked at Rogers Finishing and Tool in Lebanon. He also worked as a welder for Lau Industries (ASC) in Lebanon for fourteen years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served on the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He enjoyed working, camping, fishing, being on the farm, spending time with friends and family. He was also an avid reader of history books about the Civil War, Vietnam Era, and Indians. He also loved sports, especially the Indiana Hoosiers.
Along with his wife of 48 years, J.C. is survived by his children, Aaron (Kristin) Charles, Wendy Prather, and Chastity Charles; sisters, Sandy Fish and Mary “Sis” Robinson; grandchildren, Amber, Lyndsie, Cassie, Stetson, Kenzie, Makayla, Cory, Addison, Kooper, Karsyn, Ace; and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William and Christopher Charles; sisters, Judith Charles and Martha Datwyler.
Visitation will be Friday, March 14, 2025, from 11am until 1pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, at 1:30pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Paul Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
