Stinger Speech Team Secures Seventh Place At Sectional Tournament, Three Students Qualify For State

Rossville Schools announced that the Stinger Speech Team delivered an impressive performance at the state-qualifying sectional tournament on Saturday, Feb. 22 where they secured a seventh-place finish overall.

The team was composed of seniors Austin Giasson and Elijah Washam, juniors Lillian Black and Audrey Thompson and sophomore Olivia Shutes. Each competitor earned at least one first-place rank in an individual round.

Three students, Elijah Washam, Lillian Black and Audrey Thompson, qualifies for the IHSFA State Speech Tournament. Washam placed third overall in International Extemporaneous Speaking and will advance to state. Black and Thompson secured a sixth-place finish together in Duo Interpretation, which earned their spot in the state competition.

Prior to traveling to the State Finals on March 8 at Fishers High School, the three state-qualifying students will compete in the national-qualifying district tournament this coming weekend. The accomplishments mark the first time Rossville will be represented at the district level in over seven years.
