Update: Roads Clearing Up As Of 2 p.m.: Accidents, Slide-Offs Stall Traffic On I-65, US 52

Editor’s Note: Road conditions have improved and traffic has begun to move as of 2 p.m.

Due to the winter weather continuing in the region today, Tuesday, Jan. 14, I-65, US 52 and more have been experiencing delays, stalled traffic and more due to accidents and slide-offs that have been reported.

The Indiana Department of Transportation released that a crash was reported near the 166-mile-marker on the I-65 northbound lanes earlier this morning that caused traffic to back up to State Road 28. The crash had been called in before the snow started.

An additional crash south of the location backed up traffic further between State Road 28 and State Road 47 around 11 a.m. today.

Around 11 a.m., several accidents, slide-offs and congestion was reported along I-65 and US 52 in the region, and by 11:30 a.m., it was reported that one of the I-65 accidents involved entrapment with the individual not being able to move due to injuries.

Around 12:15 p.m., it was reported that US 52 at County Road 600 South in Tippecanoe County was closed due to a crash as well.

The department stated that traffic is beginning to move slowly at this time and plows will continue to address the the snowfall.

“We encouraged everyone to slow down now that snow is coming in and adjust to road conditions as necessary,” INDOT West Central Public Relations Director Blake Dollier reported.

Contact was attempted with the Indiana State Police for more information; however, due to the stream of accidents and calls for service, a response has not been received at the time of publication.

The snowy weather is projected to leave the area in the early afternoon, but wind may increase with blowing snow becoming a high possibility for the rest of the day today.
