Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales announced that the 2024 Indiana Presidential Electoral College Electors Meeting will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, December 17 at 10 a.m. in the Indiana Statehouse, House of Representatives Chamber with livestream options available for community members to witness the event.
The historical, constitutional, event, which dates back to 1816, will be Indiana’s 54th meeting of Indiana’s Electoral College. 22 Presidential Electors and Alternate Electors from around the state will meet and cast Indiana’s 11 Electoral Votes for President Elect Donald J. Trump and for Vice-President Elect J.D. Vance. At the conclusion of the meeting, certification documents will be executed to formally notify the U.S. House of Representatives of the results of Indiana’s Presidential Election.
The Indiana House of Representatives viewing galleries will be open to the public at 9:45 a.m. Side galleries will be open for media on a first come, first serve basis. The meeting will be conducted by the Secretary Morales with assistance from representatives of the three branches of state government, Statehouse Chaplain Matthew Barnes, and staff of the Indiana Election Division. Secretary Morales, whose statutory duties include presiding at the state Presidential Electoral College meeting, remarked on the significance of the event, emphasizing the importance of Indiana’s role in the nation’s election process:
“We are pleased to announce the details for Indiana’s participation in the historical Presidential Electoral College,” Morales said. “This public meeting, though largely ceremonial, is a significant milestone in the Presidential Election. It is one of the final 2024 state level General Election activities, leading to the national count of Electoral College votes in a joint session of the U.S. Congress next month. As always, we remain committed to transparency, fairness, and the integrity of our electoral system. With this meeting we continue to uphold our duty to ensure that Indiana plays a vital role in the election of our nation’s leaders.
