The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning due to higher temperatures, high winds and low humidity this afternoon and throughout the next few days as burn bans continue to stand in numerous counties in the region.
The National Weather Service issued the Red Flag Warning, which includes Carroll, Clinton, Boone and surrounding counties, due to heightened fire danger.
The service stated that low humidity, strong winds and dry conditions indicate that fire can spread rapidly and become difficult to control.
Clinton and Carroll counties remain under a burn ban, which prohibits outdoor burning, including fire pits, burn barrels and open flames in the counties. As of 9 a.m. today, Oct. 29, Boone County does not have an issued burn ban but remains in the Red Flag Warning zone.
Today, southwest winds are expected to be between 15 and 25 miles-per-hour throughout the region with possibilities of 40 miles-per-hour wind gusts. Relative humidity was reported as around 30% north of Interstate 70. Temperatures are estimated in the low 80s today as well, contributing to the fire risk.
