At Frankfort High School, the Band and Orchestra program offers students an exceptional opportunity to engage with music in ways that go beyond traditional school activities. These opportunities enrich students’ musical talents, develop a sense of pride and camaraderie among our student musicians, and foster a deep connection with our Frankfort community.
The Band and Orchestra groups at FHS provide students with experiences they will not find elsewhere. From trips to Kings Island and Disney World to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities in New York City and London, students are rewarded for their hard work and dedication. These trips are more than just fun getaways; they offer our students the chance to perform and compete on grand stages. This summer, the marching band (after many hours of practice) delivered an outstanding performance with their Indiana State Fair field show titled “For the Crown,” earning their highest placement since 1997, a testament to the students’ hard work.
However, the program goes much deeper than music – it is community-minded and service-oriented. They perform at various local events, including the Frankfort Farmers Market, Rotary Club meetings, and the Christmas Tree Lighting Festival. The band also takes part in the Frankfort Christmas Parade and the Veterans Day Ceremony. On multiple occasions, they’ve even provided private performances for veterans unable to attend the public ceremony. During the summer, the marching band plays a significant role in the Frankfort Hot Dog Festival. Not only do they perform on Saturday night, but they also volunteer to help set up and tear down the event. Additionally, students sell parking spots as a fundraiser during the festival, contributing to the event’s success and supporting their program.
As the school year progresses, the Band and Orchestra have a full schedule of upcoming performances, including fall and spring concerts and participation in the ISSMA concert contest. You can also see the band perform at all of our FHS home football and basketball games throughout the year. We look forward to seeing what they will achieve next,
