Boone County Senior Services, Inc. announced that two new vehicles will be joining the transportation fleet for the organization to continue providing transportation services to the community.

On Wednesday, the organization announced that two new vehicles would be entering the Boone County community with branding as part of the Boone County Area Transition System alongside numerous other vehicles dedicated for the public transit fleet.

The Boone Area Transit System houses a variety of vehicles, from buses to vans, and 23 drivers who aid community members of all ages with transportation across the community.

The program provides curb-to-curb service for individuals within the organization’s service area and operate on a “first come, first serve” basis. The service is limited to the available capacity, and community members are encouraged to schedule necessary transportation ahead of schedule to ensure that the services are available.

The service carries a fare of $4 per stop inside the town or city or $6 per stop outside of the town or city, and riders must have exact change, check or a prepaid ticket to ride. Medicaid may cover transportation services for medical appointments, and parking fees are the passenger’s responsibility. Services are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. throughout the county.

The organization also hosts numerous other transportation initiatives, including the demand-response program for residents above the age of 60 and the senior van trips.

The demand-response program through the organization, which includes wheelchair transport, is available for residents above the age of 60 from Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for destinations with Boone County, and the service operates on a donation basis. Transportation outside of the county is also available for residents with a fee. Medicaid transportation is provided for medical appointments within Boone County or surrounding counties.
