The Boone County Sheriff’s Office 2024 Spring Citizen’s Academy registration is now live with opportunities for community members to learn more about law enforcement.
The application has been released for the program with only 20 slots available for participants. All participants must be over 18-years-old and must commit to all classes, including a 3-hour ride along with a deputy.
The academy is a series of seven classes and discussions that are held once a week to provide the participants with a working knowledge of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office operations.
According to the department, community-oriented policing plays and important role in maintaining a lower crime rate, improves communication and welcomes input from community members and allows participants to become partners with the department to identify problems and formulate soluations regarding crimes in the local area.
During the academy, participants will learn what the Sheriff’s Office does and the challenges that law enforcement officers may face only a daily basis. Participants will interact with deputies and experience firsthand what a patrol officer experiences and what proactive steps the officers take to maintain a safe environment across the county.
Participants will also be given the opportunity to tour the Corrections Division and Communications Center and ask questions.
Those who participate will receive a t-shirt and will be asked to provide any crimes they may have committed on the registration form for the department to vet.
