The Frankfort Board of Public Works and Safety approved the hiring of a new police officer with ties to the Frankfort community.
On Monday, March 26 the board approved the hiring of Xavier Matthew Vela as the newest police officer at the Frankfort Police Department. Vela will begin his employment on April 10 with a swearing-in ceremony scheduled at 5 p.m. on April 9 in the council chambers at Old Stoney during the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.
Vela was a 2016 graduate of Frankfort High School before he moved on to the United States Marines, where he was honorably discharged in 2023.
Vela currently works in the law enforcement field as a corrections officer at the Tippecanoe County Jail and has passed the physical and written testing, interviews, background investigation and polygraph test to qualify him for the position.
Vela was also recommended by Public Safety Medical for employment with the Frankfort Police Department.
The board approved the hiring of Vela Monday night.
